Moss on the roof

You probably don't get on your roof very often.
I don't blame you, it's scary up there!
If you were to get up there, odds are you'd just see shingles or tiles, or whatever your roof is made of. Most roofs are just fine and have been designed to last a long time.
Surprisingly, considering how dry it typically is in Utah, I've actually found moss on the roof a few times just in the past year. It starts with a little bit of water getting stuck somewhere on the roof, maybe a shallow slope, or a downspout that spits out on a lower section of roof. Then, the wet spot happens to be in the shade, and doesn't get dried even in the summer sun. A little bit of moss starts growing, and because people rarely get up on their roof to look for moss, it goes unnoticed until it becomes a serious problem.
The problem with moss is that it holds moisture, and it grows.
It can settle under your shingles and grow, lifting up the shingle until water can run right up under it and soak the boards in your roof.
You won't even know there's a problem till that water starts dripping on the attic side of your ceiling. And that's if your insulation isn't catching all the water (and getting moldy in the process).
At Bee's Inspections, we look at your roof and check for things like moss. And you don't have to be buying or selling to get your home inspected. Call us and schedule a maintenance inspection today!
